Michigan softball is heading back to the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines received their 27th consecutive (29th overall) selection to the NCAAs and will head to the Orlando Regional on Friday, May 20.

First up for the second-seeded Michigan squad is the three seed in South Dakota State. The two teams will play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+. UCF is the host school for the regional and will play Villanova at 6 p.m. ET.

The regional plays out as a four-team, double-elimination tournament over three days. Should Michigan win on Friday, it would play at noon on Saturday. A loss on Friday puts them into the 2:30 p.m. game.

The winner of the Orlando region will play in a super regional against the winner of the Norman, Oklahoma regional. That side of the bracket includes No. 1 overall seed Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Minnesota and Prairie View A&M. The team that emerges from the super regional, which is a best of three series, will advance to the eight-squad College World Series in Oklahoma City on June 2-8.

Michigan is 86-21 all-time in the NCAA Regionals and has 18 regional titles. This is just the eighth time in program history that they will play a regional on the road.

The Wolverines finished the regular season with a 36-16 record. They lost 3-1 to Nebraska in extra innings on Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.

Michigan quote of the day

“I definitely feel inspired to get this team going again. But again, it’s not just me. It’s going to be a group effort. It’s going to take all the guys on this team to get this team back to winning. If I can be a piece of that, I’d love to. I think we definitely have the right people in place to start winning some ball games. It’s a great vibe here right now. I can’t wait until all the vets get here and we all start getting after it as a team.”
