Michigan State complains to Big Ten — Sherrone Moore responds
The Michigan – MSU game ended in yet another U-M victory, but also with extracurriculars after tight end Colston Loveland and Spartans end Anthony Jones got into a skirmish on the game’s last play. The Michigan bench emptied after the two really got into it, and it carried over on to the field.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said in his postgame press conference he was disappointed, adding it was up to his players to be better. He echoed those sentiments again Monday.
“I just want to make a comment … I made it after the game about the postgame skirmish. It’s unacceptable, not how we carry ourselves,” Moore said. “We’ll address that internally. That’s not how we represent the University of Michigan, the Block M, or the winged helmet. We’ll take care of that, and that will never happen again.”
Beyond the initial skirmish, it appeared Michigan running back Kalel Mullings was involved in some extracurriculars, as well. Some have suggested he was “stomping” someone on the ground, but Moore said he didn’t see that.
“No,” he said. “And we’ll handle it. We’ll handle all that internally.”
Michigan State reportedly complained to the Big Ten after the game, athletic director Alan Haller contacting them about the incident.

Moore responded, “no … no” when asked if he’d heard from conference higher-ups. He added that things happen in rivalries, but “you’ve got to control your emotions” in games like these.
“I thought our guys did an excellent job from the start all the way to when the whistle ended, before that,” he said. “There was a lot of talk and a lot of [chirping], but our guys kept their composure and played a good game … especially finished the game well.
“Look at the discipline. We had zero penalties. To be in that environment and have that, have 0 penalties, have any incidents, that was good to see. There were countless numbers of times watching those guys help our guy up; our guys helped them up. Donovan going over to one of their guys when he went down, telling him, ‘Lord be with you and help you through your injuries.’ You’ve just got to calm your emotions down at the end.”
