Michigan State suspends four more following tunnel assault after 29-7 loss at U-M
Michigan State might have a tough time fielding a team this Saturday at Illinois at the rate their players are getting suspended following the assault of two Michigan players. The MSU administration suspended four players Sunday night — starting defensive back Angelo Grose, starting defensive end Zion Young, backup defensive end Itayvion “Tank” Brown ,and backup defensive back Khary Crump — and have now suspended four more.
Among them: standout defender Jacoby Windmon, who was seen on film putting his helmet on and apparently throwing punches at Gemon Green. The grad student cornerback is in concussion protocol and has filed a lawsuit, with attorney Tom Mars representing him. Justin White, Malcolm Jones, and Brandon Wright are the other three.
From a release:
Michigan sophomore Ja’Den McBurrows was also assaulted. Both suffered injuries, a “nasal injury” for McBurrows that has since been reported as a broken nose.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said he wasn’t sure if Green would play Saturday night at Rutgers.
“There needs to be accountability. There needs to be a full, thorough, timely investigation,” Harbaugh said Monday. “I can’t imagine this will not result in criminal charges. The videos are bad, and it’s clear what transpired. It seems very open and shut. As they say, watch the tape.

“I’m coming from this from the perspective of being a parent, and these young men are entrusted to me by their families and to our program. And we have the responsibility to each player to treat them like our own, and I take that responsibility very seriously.”
Green and his father “have every intention of pressing criminal charges against those persons who are responsible for the vicious assault that occurred in the Michigan football stadium following the Michigan/MSU game,” Mars told different outlets, adding Green was “hit with fists and a helmet” and that he suffered a concussion and cuts to his face.
“When college football players brutally attack a member of the opposing team with their helmets, resulting in the player suffering a concussion and other injuries, an apology won’t suffice,” Mars said. “There has to be severe consequences for this kind of misconduct.”
Harbaugh agreed, saying he would do everything he could to support his players. Police continue to investigate the assault, using tunnel film and more.
