The Michigan Wolverines are set for a rivalry game against the rival Michigan State Spartans in Week 9 and the Big Ten-mandated availability report has been released two hours prior to kickoff. Leading the list is U-M junior cornerback Will Johnson, who has been designated as OUT for this week’s game.

Position coach LaMar Morgan discussed the injury this week, suggesting Johnson had not practiced much.

“Will Johnson, we did some things where he did last week,” Morgan said on Wednesday. “Some of our guys are modified throughout the week. There are different things that they’re doing. I think right now Will Johnson is just working through — be his best all the time when he gets on the field. I think we have done a good job. I think he has done a great job.

“So right now, Will is — the game’s not played today. There’s a lot of guys that maybe didn’t go full speed all the way until Wednesday and Thursday and had a heck of a game on Saturday. So that’s kind of what Will’s doing right now, just trying to get his mind right. He’s always in the game plan, in the front row, challenging guys, coaching every day. So that’s kind of what Will’s doing right now. We’re excited about Will. I know when he gets on the field, he’ll go 100 percent.”

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore weighs in on matchup

“It means a lot, ever since I’ve been here, my first year in the rivalry was the all-weather game, and it was rain, it was snow, it was sunshine, it was cloudy, it was the Devin Bush fiasco, I was holding him back with that whole craziness, so I got a glimpse of it early, and I’ve always seen it from afar and had a lot of respect for it, but it means a lot to me, and we’re gonna take a lot of pride in how we prepare and what we do to try to keep Paul here.

“It’s gonna be pretty cool, it’s gonna be an awesome atmosphere, environment, it’s gonna be, you know, obviously a sold-out stadium, and hopefully our guys just pack it in and don’t let a lot of their fans in here, but it’ll be a fun atmosphere to be a part of.”

Saturday night’s game kicks off just after 7:30 p.m. with Big Ten Network carrying the broadcast.
