EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football is taking on Michigan State Saturday night at Spartan Stadium. Follow along below for live updates from the game.

Live updates: Michigan vs. MSU

• Final: Michigan 49, MSU 0

• 4Q, 0:08 — Michigan puts an exclamation point on the victory, with quarterback Alex Orji scoring a rushing touchdown with eight seconds left. The Wolverines lead 49-0 after the extra point.

• 4Q, 5:20 — The Michigan backup defense comes up with a fourth-down stop in the red zone. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter gives a huge fist pump in elation.

• End of the 3rd quarter: Michigan 42, MSU 0

• 3Q, 3:52 — The Michigan backups go three-and-out. The Wolverines punt for just the second time tonight. MSU takes over at its own 31-yard line.

• 3Q, 5:16 — Michigan has inserted its backups into the game on offense. The Wolverines begin their drive on their own 14-yard line.

• 3Q, 6:44 — After an array of penalties, Michigan scores quickly, with J.J. McCarthy hitting AJ Barner for an 11-yard touchdown. The Wolverines lead 42-0.

• 3Q, 7:50 — Ernest Hausmann notches a tackle for loss on 3rd and 1, and MSU has to punt. Tyler Morris fair catches at the Michigan 35-yard line.

• 3Q, 9:49 — MSU was putting a solid drive together, before quarterback Katin Houser threw an interception to Mike Sainristil, who returned it to the house for a touchdown. The play stood after review. Michigan leads 35-0.

• End of the second quarter: Michigan 28, MSU 0. The Wolverines executed a two-minute drill and got down to the MSU 4-yard line, but Donovan Edwards wasn’t set, a false start, and a 10-second runoff forced the half to end.

• 2Q, 2:54 — J.J. McCarthy fires an absolute seed to Colston Loveland, who was being covered by a linebacker, for another 22-yard touchdown between the quarterback and tight end. The Wolverines lead 28-0, and “little brother” chants have broken out from the strong U-M contingent at Spartan Stadium.

• 2Q, 7:54 — For the first time tonight, the Michigan offense has been stopped. The Wolverines didn’t pick up a 3rd and 2 with a Blake Corum run and decided to punt it away. Tommy Doman backed MSU up on its own 18-yard line.

• 2Q, 10:44 — Michigan had a free play on second and long after a MSU defender jumped offsides, and J.J. McCarthy took advantage. He hit Colston Loveland for a 22-yard touchdown, and the Wolverines declined the penalty.

• End of the first quarter: Michigan 14, MSU 0. The Wolverines have the ball, 1st and 10, at the MSU 49-yard line after another third-and-long pickup.

• 1Q, 1:55 — Michigan takes a 14-0 lead after a J.J. McCarthy 25-yard touchdown pass to Roman Wilson. McCarthy evaded a free rusher who came on a twist and was able to find Wilson while on the move. Wilson had significant separation. McCarthy is 9-for-10 passing for 129 yards.

• 1Q, 4:47 — The Michigan defense comes up with a big fourth-down stop and U-M will take over at its own 49-yard line, with excellent field position. MSU running back Nate Carter was stopped short of the line to gain on 4th and 2, with Junior Colson and Mike Sainristil making the stop.

• 1Q, 8:50 — Blake Corum punches in a touchdown from the 1-yard line. That caps off a 12-play, 84-yard opening drive for the Maize and Blue, who lead 7-0 after the made extra point by James Turner.

• 1Q, 12:23 — A scrambling J.J. McCarthy just hit AJ Barner over the middle for a first down on 3rd and 14. The Wolverines are driving, with 2 first downs on the drive so far. Media timeout for injured MSU player. The Wolverines have the ball, 1st and 10 at midfield.

• MSU won the toss and elected to defer its choice to the second half. Michigan will receive.

Since the trophy’s inception in 1953, U-M holds a 39-29-2 edge in this rivalry game.
