The Michigan Wolverines will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes this week as three-touchdown underdogs, but with a three-game winning streak in the series and a recipe that has shown to work, nobody in the building is feeling they’re headed for a death march.

This season has not been what many people expected it to be with a 6-5 record, but this is still a game that both sides of the rivalry prepare every single day for. Senior quarterback Davis Warren, who says he will consult J.J. McCarthy this week about the matchup, is ready to put that preparation into practice.

“We talk about them a lot, and we’re always preparing to a certain extent for them,” Warren said. “Feel like every Monday when you come in here is this Monday, the Monday of Ohio State week. Having that attention to detail, that focus, that level of urgency to go attack that week and that opponent, and that’s the same thing we’re feeling here.

“They’re a good football team, they’re a good defense, and they got a lot of talented guys. But I know that we’re going to be more than prepared to go in there and be us and play Michigan football. And really press the envelope and just put ourselves in a great position.”

Michigan is coming off a 50-6 win over Northwestern over the weekend in what was easily its most complete effort of the season. The Wildcats are far from world-beaters, but the victory was an affirmation that the process in place can work for this version of the Wolverines.

“We can’t control our opponent until we step out on the field,” Warren said. “It’s just our job to do the most preparation we can during the week. And I think, as an offense, we’ve taken pride in that, being prepared. And then going into Saturday and being us and focusing on our job. And focus in on just doing your 1/11th. And that’s something [offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell] talks a lot about.

“Do your 1/11th to the best of your ability. And then when the echo of the whistle blows, coming back, get in the play call and do it again. So I know we’re gonna take that same approach on Saturday. Obviously, it’s a huge game. We all understand that. As an offense, we can take that approach that we took last week of everyone doing their 1/11th playing as one cohesive unit, we’re more than capable.”

It may not have been his team, per say, but head coach Sherrone Moore has already led a Michgian win over the Buckeyes in last year’s 30-24 game in Ann Arbor.

“Coach Moore has shown that, and I know as a group, just as a passing attack, we’re ready for the challenge, and we’re prepared, and we’re gonna be ready for the opportunity, and just go out there and play with detail and have fun and cut it loose,” Warren said. “I think that’s something that, especially in 22, J.J. did a great job and we did a great job of getting open and some explosive pass plays. So those were huge plays in the game.

“So we’re gonna entrench ourselves in the work this week, in the film study, in the prep and I know Coach Campbell and Coach Moore and Coach Bell and Coach Casula are going to put this passing attack in a great position to be successful on Saturday. And then when Saturday comes just going to be having fun, playing loose, and cutting the pigskin loose, and it’s going to be a really fun time.”
