Newsstand: Michigan to be without Will Johnson at Indiana, per report
Tweets Of The Day
Michigan Wolverines football junior cornerback Will Johnson has missed the last 11 quarters of action with a toe injury, and the Maize and Blue are slated to be without him again today at No. 8 Indiana.
Johnson is dealing with a lower-body injury, and it will keep him out for a third consecutive game. He’s a a key piece of the Michigan defense and leads the team with two interceptions — both of which went back for touchdowns — to go with 14 tackles.
Even despite his injury, Johnson remains one of the top cornerbacks in the country and has a strong case to be a first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked him as the No. 2 overall prospect on his latest Big Board, only behind Colorado standout Travis Hunter.
Johnson was a key piece of Michigan’s run to the national championship a season ago, totaling four interceptions along with 27 tackles and four passes defended to anchor the defense. All told, during his two-plus seasons in Ann Arbor, he has 68 tackles and nine picks.
Michigan flipped three-star wide receiver Jamar Browder from NC State. Browder announced his commitment Friday morning. More from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:
Browder originally committed to NC State in June. However, Michigan jumped in the mix this fall and made a big push as it wanted to add more size to its wide receiver room.
Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy led the way in Browder’s recruitment and really moved the needle over the last couple of months.
“Coach Bellamy knows where I’m from and gets my lingo,” Browder said. “It’s like talking to someone from home. He was just being himself. He didn’t have a pitch. He just told me about the plays and concepts and quizzed me. I passed the test, so that was good. He said they need me. He wasn’t lying. They definitely need some size and someone that can go get it.”
At 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, Browder is ranked as the No. 113 wide receiver and No. 713 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
Michigan hockey took down Notre Dame with an overtime game winner by Evan Werner 2:02 into the extra session.
Quote Of The Day
“I’ve probably been to at least 30 games at the Greensboro Coliseum. They used to play in the ACC tournament there basically every year. Which was an hour from when I lived in Charlotte, an hour from when I lived in Durham. It’ll be a cool feeling being down on the court for the first time. More so than that, just our team having to play a really, really good Wake Forest basketball team. Good, really well coached really talented. Getting the challenge of that and then being at home is just a bonus for me personally.”
