Newsstand: Michigan basketball assistant Howard Eisley swinging by to see 2024 commit Christian Anderson
Tweets Of The Day
Michigan Wolverines basketball assistant coach Howard Eisley will swing by Lovett (Ga.) High to see its lone 2024 commitment — point guard Christian Anderson, the No. 86 overall player in his class per the On3 Consensus.
Michigan will receive an official visit from Anderson, who will be on campus Sept. 23-24 and will take in the Wolverines’ football game against Maryland, the Big Ten opener.
Michigan senior quarterback Cade McNamara may not be the team’s starter at the current moment, after head coach Jim Harbaugh tabbed J.J. McCarthy for the job, but he’s still a captain and a leader — and he has the support of his teammates.
“We all love Cade. He’s our captain still,” left tackle Ryan Hayes explained. “He’s come into the building with a smile on his face every day. He’s going to do what he can, and we all still look at him as a captain. He’s treating us the same; he hasn’t changed his outlook at all, so it’s been pretty good to see.”
A small number of Michigan fans booed when McNamara was on the field against Hawai’i. While Harbaugh said Monday that whether or not those outside the program embrace the Wolverines having two ‘really good’ quarterbacks is largely irrelevant, Hayes revealed that he and his teammates were bothered by the act.

“We hate that; we would hate for any of our brothers to get booed,” the Michigan lineman said, defending McNamara. “I think that’s pretty ridiculous for our stadium to do that to one of our brothers who’s a captain on this team, led us to all of those victories last year. Cade was a big part of the offense last year, leading us to [wins over] Ohio State, Iowa and into the playoff. We hate that stuff, to be honest.”
McCarthy will donate the proceeds from his jersey sales to his offensive linemen, and the profits from his other merchandise will go to his foundation.
McCarthy has completed 15 of his 16 pass attempts through two games, and he’s an early Heisman Trophy contender according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Quote of the day
“We were back on the practice field yesterday, and there’s no difference in Cade’s demeanor. He’s an incredible leader and quarterback, and he’s preparing like I want him to prepare and the whole team wants him to prepare: like he’s the starter. And, it’s football. He’s going to play again, and we’re very confident that he will play his level of football, play his game.” — Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh on QB Cade McNamara
