Michigan basketball slides in Associated Press top 25

Michigan Wolverines basketball has slid in the Associated Press top 25 following an 0-1 week. The Maize and Blue were No. 20 last week but have dropped to No. 15 in the Feb. 24 release. Michigan is No. 13 in the coaches poll.
This is Michigan’s fourth-straight week in the AP poll this season. The Wolverines have been in the top 25 in nine different weeks, with their highest spot being No. 12.
First-year head coach Dusty May‘s team is 20-6 overall and 12-3 in Big Ten play, sitting in second in the conference standings with five regular-season contests left. Michigan State is a half-game up at 13-3, while Wisconsin and Maryland remain in the mix for a Big Ten title with five losses in league play.
Michigan lost to Michigan State last week, 75-62, in its first loss of the season at Crisler Center. That game snapped the Wolverines’ six-game win streak.
The Maize and Blue have a quick turnaround, set to face Nebraska Monday night in Lincoln. May and Co. are looking to bounce back and not get deterred by its first loss in weeks.
“This can’t turn into two losses,” May said after the Friday night setback. “We’re a half-game out of first place in the Big Ten in mid-February, so there’s no time to hang our heads and mope and feel sorry for ourselves.

“… This group’s proved all year that we respond. We unify when things don’t go well, so there’s no reason to expect anything different this time. We’re looking forward to moving on to Monday night against a very good Nebraska team, especially in Nebraska.”
Michigan has beaten two teams that are currently ranked in the AP poll: No. 11 Wisconsin in Madison and No. 20 Purdue in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines fell in the first meeting against Purdue.
Michigan can add to that total in games ahead, with matchups against two ranked opponents down the stretch: No. 8 MSU (March 9) and No. 16 Maryland (March 5).
