Newsstand: Watch Dusty May locker room speech after win over Rutgers

Tweets Of The Day
Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May addressed his team after an 84-82 win over Rutgers. The Wolverines led by as many as 13 points but pulled it out at the end, thanks to a Danny Wolf assist and Nimari Burnett deep three at the buzzer, after they were down one point.
Michigan landed Cartersville (Ga.) Cass interior offensive lineman Bear McWhorter, a high three-star prospect in 2026, over former favorite Alabama. Here’s more from The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell:
The lifelong Alabama fan’s recruitment picked the Wolverines over the Crimson Tide.
After visiting the top priority interior offensive lineman twice in January— once at his home and again at Cartersville (Ga.) Cass High— and hosting him on an unofficial visit, Michigan put the finishing touches on his recruitment over the past few weeks.
Offensive line coach Grant Newsome led this effort as his primary recruiter, building an extremely strong connection with McWhorter and the 6-3, 308-pound lineman’s family. Head coach Sherrone Moore also played a significant role.
“They’re genuine, great people,” McWhorter said. “Hanging out with them, seeing what they do, listening to them talk, there’s nothing fake about them.”
The lineman’s parents named him after legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant. McWhorter’s family roots for the Crimson Tide and took him to games as a kid. According to his father Josh McWhorter, Alabama was Bear’s dream school growing up. Michigan’s newest commit and his family still kept an open mind while going through the process.
Michigan running back Donovan Edwards — an NFL Draft prospect participating in the scouting combine this week — came to the Wolverines in 2021. He and his classmates were freshmen as the Wolverines turned the program around, winning their first Big Ten championship in 17 years, and went on to become the winningest senior class in school history.
Speaking with reporters at the combine, Edwards discussed the turnaround and his role in it.
“I feel as though it was our team chemistry and our bond with each other,” Edwards said. “The fact that a lot of those guys, before I even got there, they went through adversity with each other. And my class specifically, we wanted to go in and we wanted to make Michigan great again, and we wanted to put them back on the map and beat all of our rivals and win Big Ten championships and national championships.

“So, it was just that team chemistry and that dynamic that we had. There were no egos at all. Nobody thought that they were bigger or better than the program, and I feel like that’s what you need to be able to have a great culture and to have a winning program.”
Quote Of The Day
Alabama did get the last visit and was trending on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. But Michigan never stopped swinging. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was personally involved in this recruitment and was in constant contact with McWhorter and his family. Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome also did a great job in this one. Both sold McWhorter on fit and Michigan’s recent offensive line production. The Wolverines ultimately delivered a knockout blow to Alabama and earned his commitment.
