Newsstand: 'Brick by brick' is how Dusty May plans to build Michigan basketball
Tweets Of The Day
New Michigan basketball coach Dusty May joined WXYZ’s Brad Galli for an interview following his introductory press conference. Galli and May talked inside Crisler Center, the home of the storied Wolverines basketball program, where numerous banners hang, including the one representing the 1989 national championship. Galli asked what it will take to put another one up there in the rafters.
“Day by day, brick by brick, get lost in the fight, the process,” May said. “And the banner is a byproduct of so many people working together, being on the same page and fighting for a bigger purpose.”
May discussed the decision to take the Michigan job, when he had other suitors, finishing the deal quickly last Saturday night after a meeting in Fort Lauderdale.
“This year was so unique because everything happened so quickly,” May said. “Typically, though, if you’re interested in a school and they’re interested in you and there’s an opening, there’s a lot of behind the scenes research being done. You’re asking everyone that’s been associated with that program about the people, about the inner workings. You usually gather all your information, they gather all their information and you hope you’re on the same page and it works out. Very, very grateful for how swift this process was, because it gives us a chance to build our roster and build a good team for next year.”
Michigan football defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has joined Twitter / X, and it looks like fans should expect some activity from him on the platform.

Michigan softball cruised past Toledo Wednesday, winning 12-3 via the run rule to win in six innings. The Wolverines have improved to 21-11 overall and possess a 3-0 record in league play.
The University of Michigan softball team used an explosive eight-run fifth inning and added the clinching two runs in the sixth for a run-rule victory on Wednesday (Mar. 27), defeating the Toledo Rockets 12-3 in six innings at Alumni Field in Carol Hutchins Stadium.
Five Wolverines recorded a home run in the contest, with three coming in the bottom of the fifth. Jenissa Conway mashed two homers out of the park, recording three total RBI. Indiana Langford tied for the team lead in RBI after rounding the bases on a three-run inside-the-park homer. It was Michigan’s most homers in a game since also hitting six against Illinois in 2019.
Quote Of The Day
I was definitely heartbroken. We went through a lot with those guys. But I’m happy with the guys that are here now. They’ve been doing a great job at getting on the same page with us and working with us to be a cohesive group and work together. I’m excited about it. They’re very open and they’re very genuine. So it’s been great to see the new guys that are here.”
