Germany’s basketball team is in the medal round for the first time in Olympics history, thanks in part to two former Michigan standouts, brothers Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner.

In a 76-63 quarterfinal round win over Greece, Franz Wagner posted 18 points, while Moritz Wagner chipped in 8 points. Franz added 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Moritz drew the assignment of guarding Giannis Antetokounmpo and also registered 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Germany will take on France — which defeated Canada in another quarterfinal contest — Thursday (Aug. 8) at 11:30 a.m. ET at the Bercy Arena in Paris, France.

Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd ripped the latest NCAA allegations detailed in a draft copy of a notice of allegations against Michigan on his show, ‘The Herd.’

“This reads like a Saturday Night Live comedy skit,” Cowherd said. “They’re accused of violations at Michigan, here’s one of them: [Former Michigan assistant Steve] Clinkscale is accused of helping a recruit get verified on Instagram. That same recruit you could pay a million dollars a year to play out of high school. But this is one of the big ones that the assistant coach got one of his players verified on Instagram. I mean, is this a witch hunt or not?

“Another one is allegedly sending text messages to high school sophomores. You mean the same ones Ohio State or Michigan or Clemson or Georgia could pay $600,000 to legally? I mean, you’ve got to be kidding me on this stuff. So you can pay a high school player half a million dollars cash. You can wear shirts, ‘we pay players,’ park Lambos in front of the recruiting facility, but you can’t verify an IG account or send a text.

“This is a witch hunt. There is nothing in this ruling, nothing that proves [former Michigan head coach Jim] Harbaugh knew any of it. He’s being punished honestly because he said you can’t have my cell phone. No, it’s nonsense. That’s what he’s in trouble for.”

Quote Of The Day

“It’s a difference when a head coach is actually calling you every day, telling you, ‘I want you here.’  That’s what really made the difference. I already knew he was a good person from playing against him so much. And I never really saw him lose his cool on the sideline.”
