Former Michigan guard Kobe Bufkin hit the game-winning shot in an Atlanta Hawks NBA Summer League win over the Philadelphia 76ers Thursday.

“If the Atlanta Hawks’ 99-98 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers was any indication, Kobe Bufkin is going to be perfectly comfortable in clutch situations during his NBA career,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Scott Polacek.

“Atlanta trailed by one in crunch time and turned to the No. 15 overall pick of the 2023 NBA draft. Instead of settling for a contested jumper, he attacked the lane while going to his left and hit a difficult shot to put his team ahead for good with 12 seconds remaining.

“He finished with 14 points and seven assists while showing the ability to score off the bounce and facilitate for others when needed.”

The Maize and Blue landed a commitment from 2024 Chesire (Conn.) Academy four-star EDGE Jacob Smith. From The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:

Smith committed to Michigan over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC and others.

Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston and staffer Dylan Roney, who works closely with U-M’s pass rushers, led the way in Smith’s recruitment and helped seal the deal.

“Coach Mike is my guy,” Smith said. “I talk to him the most. I’ve also talked to Coach Roney a few times. They are both nice guys and easy to talk to. They’re straightforward. They don’t have to sell a lot.”

Quote Of The Day

“[Michigan] coach [Jim Harbaugh] has talked about it several times. In 2021 we were an F-150 and ‘22 we’re an F-250. Now it’s ’23 — can we be an F-350? We’re manufacturing right now. We’re working on the parts; we’re building on it. We want it to all come together.”
