Newsstand: Former Michigan guard Tim Hardaway Jr. traded to Detroit Pistons

Former Michigan Wolverines basketball standout Tim Hardaway Jr. is reportedly being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Detroit Pistons, who reside less than an hour away from where the guard played college basketball.
Hardaway has been with the Mavericks, who made the NBA Finals this past season, since 2018-19.
Hardaway, an 11-year NBA veteran, averaged 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game last season while shooting 40.2% overall and 35.3% on 3-pointers. A valuable reserve for the Mavs in the regular season, Hardaway saw his role diminish significantly in the playoffs.
During Dallas’ run to the NBA Finals, Hardaway posted 4.4 ppg, 1.8 rpg and 0.4 apg in 12.7 mpg. He was inactive for four games in the first round and did not play in three of the team’s five games against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals. He had perhaps his best game of the playoffs in the Mavs’ lone Finals win when he scored 15 points off the bench in a Game 4 victory.
Grimes, the No. 25 pick int he 2021 Draft, split last season between the Pistons and Knicks after New York dealt him to Detroit at the trade deadline. He played in six games for Detroit, posting 5.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg and 2.3 apg and was slowed by a knee sprain and shooting slumps that limited his minutes with the Pistons.
In Dallas, Grimes may have an opportunity to shine. Aside from Kia MVP candidate Luka Doncic and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, Dallas’ backcourt depth is a mix of young players (Josh Green, Jaden Hardy) and veterans (Derrick Jones Jr., Dante Exum) getting most of the minutes. As a member of the Knicks from 2021-23, Grimes was a regular rotation player who posted a career-best 11.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg and 2.1 apg in 71 games in the 2022-23 season.
2026 Michigan quarterback commit Brady Hart stood out at the Future 50 in Bradenton, Fla., late this week. He was also recruiting top targets to the Wolverines.
Michigan signee Michael Hage was selected No. 21 overall by the Montreal Canadiens.
Hage spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League. A first-team All-USHL selection, he finished fourth in the league in scoring this season with 75 points in 54 games, scoring 33 goals and 42 assists. He tallied 24 multiple-point games last season with a career best five-point game against Madison.
He is the 34th first-round selection for the Wolverines, as the program continues to lead all universities with the most first-round selections all time. In the last five years alone, Michigan leads the way with 25 first-round selections.
