Michigan center Hunter Dickinson a unanimous selection for preseason All-Big Ten
Michigan Wolverines basketball junior center Hunter Dickinson was unsurprisingly tabbed as a unanimous pick for the 11-member preseason All-Big Ten list released by the conference Thursday afternoon.
Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was named the league’s preseason player of the year. Purdue center Zach Edey joined Dickinson as a unanimous selection. Other members include Illiois guard Terrence Shannon Jr., Iowa forward Kris Murray, Michigan State forward Malik Hall, Minnesota forward Jamison Battle, Penn State guard Jalen Pickett, Rutgers center Clifford Omoruyi, Wisconsin guard Chucky Hepburn and Wisconsin forward Tyler Wahl.

Dickinson is the fifth Michigan player to earn multiple preseason team honors after racking up the accolade last season, joining Maurice Taylor (1996, 1997), LaVell Blanchard (2001, 2002), Manny Harris (2009, 2010) and Caris LeVert (2015, 2016).
A captain for the first time in his career, Dickinson is Michigan’s leader on and off the court, having been a force over the last two seasons. He led Michigan in points and rebounds both years. As a freshman in 2020-21, he averaged 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 59.8 percent from the field. As a sophomore a year ago, he posted 18.6 points and 8.6 boards per outing while shooting 56.3 percent overall. He connected on 32.8 percent of his triple tries, too, after not having a single make the year prior.

Dickinson needs just 12 points to become the 57th Wolverine to reach 1,000 in a career. Additionally, with 20 rebounds he would become the 46th member of U-M’s 500-rebound club. Reaching both of those milestones will make him the 31st member in the 1000/500 club. With 11 blocks, he will become just the ninth Wolverine to record 100 in a career.
In two seasons, Dickinson has earned multiple Big Ten accolades, including Academic All-Big Ten (2022), All-Big Ten first team (2021) and second team (2022), the conference Freshman of Year (2021) and All-Freshman Team (2021) selection. He also was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week a U-M record-tying seven times.
Michigan begins the season Nov. 7 against Purdue Fort Wayne, following an exhibition versus Ferris State Nov. 4. The Maize and Blue went 19-15 last season and made their fifth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16, a Big Ten record. Head coach Juwan Howard is in his fourth season at the helm of his alma mater.
