Michigan basketball in pursuit of Memphis transfer Malcolm Dandridge
Michigan Wolverines basketball has already begun summer practices, but head coach Juwan Howard and his staff are still looking to add to the roster, with two scholarship spots to work with. The latest target is former Memphis forward Malcolm Dandridge, a 6-foot-9, 260-pound big man who entered the transfer portal May 10.
Michigan is also in hot pursuit of former West Virginia wing Jose Perez, who will take his official visit July 28-30, immediately following the NCAA-mandated recruiting dead period.
Dandridge, once a four-star prospect part of the Tigers’ second-ranked recruiting class in 2019, has also received interest from West Virginia, Saint Louis and others during his transfer recruitment. He has one year of eligibility remaining after playing four seasons with the Tigers.

A Memphis native, Dandridge played in 20 games — with three starts and 17 appearances off the bench — last season, dealing with an injury that held him out from mid-December to mid-February. He averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per contest, while shooting 58.3 percent on 72 two-point attempts.
Offensively, the Michigan target was used primarily as a post player, cutter and offensive rebounder. He produced 1.022 points per possession on 46 post-up attempts last season. However, he also had an alarming 23.9-percent turnover rate and a very low 4.9-percent assist rate.
Dandridge is at his best on the other side of the floor. He’s a rim protector, with a 7.7-percent block rate last season, and posted a 19.5-percent defensive rebounding rate, the highest on the Memphis team. He averaged 1 block per contest in 2022-23.

Dandridge averaged less than 5 points per game in his first three seasons at Memphis. He has a 58.3 career two-point field goal percentage but averaged less than 2 made field goals per game each season until 2022-23, when that number increased to 2.1.
Michigan has a projected starting center in sophomore Tarris Reed Jr. but a vacancy at the backup spot. Dandridge could fill that, along with graduate forward Olivier Nkamhoua, a Tennessee transfer who joined the team late last month.
Nkamhoua is one of three transfers Michigan has added this offseason, joining former Alabama guard Nimari Burnett and former Seton Hall forward Tray Jackson.
