ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines basketball head coach Juwan Howard, junior center Hunter Dickinson, sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin and freshman guard Dug McDaniel met with the media following their team’s 87-79 win over Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at Crisler Center.
Michigan was down three points with 2.1 seconds left in regulation and the ball. Junior forward Terrance Williams II inbounded it to Dickinson, who didn’t catch it clean but created some space, took a dribble and fired a 30-footer to tie the game at the buzzer. The Wolverines outscored Wisconsin by eight points in the extra session to pull away and win, keeping their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
“I drew up a play where it was going to be [graduate guard] Joey [Baker] being the first option coming off a screen, and then Hunter would be the second option. And so, Terrance Williams Jr. — a hell of a pass, I would just say that. With a guy draping all over him, to deliver it on time, on target. And yes, that was a big target being Hunter Dickinson. But an amazing shot that he made.
“We needed those. We were owed that. We’ve been through a lot of pain over the season with some of the games that we lost, and the close ones I’m speaking of. I’m sure you guys know the games I’m talking about, because you’ve probably written about them so many times. But with that, it was nice that our guys dug down deep and stayed the course and were able to get this really hard fought victory today.”
Dickinson was huge for Michigan with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin posted a career-high 28 points on 21 shot attempts, including 6 in overtime. McDaniel had 8 of his career-best 20 points in the extra period.
