Juwan Howard won’t apologize for winning ugly

Michigan junior center Hunter Dickinson said there’s no such thing as an “ugly” win in the Big Ten. With the Wolverines now 5-3 in league play after a rough offensive performance in Sunday’s victory, head coach Juwan Howard agreed, with a laugh.

“I agree with Hunter, and I think every coach in the Big Ten would agree with Hunter, as well,” Howard said. “This might be the first time that all of the coaches in the Big Ten would agree with him, because in the Big Ten — it goes back to years before me and while I was here and years after — it’s one of those [nights] where the ball isn’t going to always fall for you offensively.

“Defensively, sometimes you just have to win in the mud. That’s one of those victories where we learned a lot from. Competing in the Maryland game and this time only giving up 6 offensive rebounds, compared to 15 [against Maryland], so that’s a big improvement. Defensively … that’s an improvement. We took care of the basketball — 10 turnovers instead of 18 turnovers.”
