Wolverine TV: Juwan Howard previews Michigan State, talks 2013 team being honored, more
Michigan Wolverines basketball head coach Juwan Howard met with the media ahead of his team’s Saturday night game against Michigan State. He discussed the program’s plans to honor the victims of a recent MSU shooting, previews the game with the Spartans (looking back at what went wrong in the first meeting, a loss in East Lansing), discussed U-M’s 2013 team being recognized at halftime and more.
Michigan basketball will hold its program-wide reunion this weekend, and the 2013 team will receive a special honor as part of its 10-year anniversary of making the national title game.
“Yeah, I do have memories,” Michigan’s head coach said of the 2013 club. “I remember trying to find the flight from Miami to try to be there to support the team as they went on the amazing run [to the Final Four] and also get to the national championship game. I personally know that, that’s very hard to do. That was a moment of excitement for those players, the coaches, as well as the Michigan support staff.
“Being in that building in Atlanta and just watching and seeing those young men and staff go out there and compete against Louisville, it was remarkable. It was a competitive game. Unfortunately, we did not come out on the winning side, but I think that team should be recognized and supported for that amazing run that year, and that’s what Michigan family do.
“We’re always about that family, as far as alumni and those who paved the way for others. They need to be recognized for putting in and supporting the university at its fullest.”
