Michigan and Virginia set for Tuesday night tip at Crisler Center

Michigan and Virginia will tip off at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN Tuesday night at Crisler Center.

The Wolverines are 5-1 with wins over Purdue Fort Wayne (75-56), Eastern Michigan (88-83), Pittsburgh (91-60), Ohio (70-66) and Jackson State (78-68). They were blown out by Arizona State in the Legends Classic championship game Nov. 17, by a final score of 87-62. Michigan’s best win in terms of Kenpom rank is Pitt (121st).

Virginia appears to be one of the nation’s elite, at least in the early going. The Cavaliers are 5-0, with two signature victories — 86-79 over Baylor and 70-61 over Illinois. They’re No. 5 nationally in offensive efficiency and 15th in defensive efficiency.

Virginia shoots three-pointers at a 44.8-percent clip, the fourth-best mark in the nation, and has assists on 71.3 percent of its buckets, which leads the country. Typical of Cavalier defense, they allow opponents to notch assists on just 42.2 percent of their made shots, forcing them into one-on-one situations.

This game is the start of a tough stretch for the Maize and Blue, who will travel to London to play Kentucky Sunday, Dec. 4. They then get Minnesota to open Big Ten play Dec. 8 and take on North Carolina later in the month (Dec. 21).
