Wolverine TV: Juwan Howard, Michigan players react to Wisconsin loss, talk MSU tragedy, return to Madison
MADISON, Wisc. — Michigan Wolverines basketball fell to Wisconsin Tuesday night at the Kohl Center, 64-59. Head coach Juwan Howard, sophomore guard Kobe Bufkin and redshirt freshman forward Will Tschetter met with the media following the tough loss, the Wolverines’ 10th of the season by six or fewer points or in overtime.
Howard and Michigan made their first return trip to Madison following last season’s postgame incident that resulted in fines and suspensions on both sides. Howard’s punishment was the most severe, with the head man missing the Wolverines’ final five regular-season games before returning to lead them to the Sweet 16.
He reiterated that he regrets his involvement in the scuffle and that he and the Wisconsin side have had positive conversations.
“I’m still growing, but I’m also vulnerable [enough] to let [my players] know that those moments right there, you can learn from it and make sure you don’t make those mistakes. That’s the connection that we have.
“I’m so honored and blessed to have young men in that locker room that are enjoying their experience and representing that go blue, maize and blue.”
Michigan’s head coach was pleased with his team’s defense — Wisconsin missed its final 15 shots from the field — but not enough went his team’s way on the offensive end. There were still some mistakes Howard lamented, especially early on in the game.

“Defensively, our guys were pretty locked in and dialed into playing against a very good offensive team in Wisconsin,” Howard said. “Give credit on how the movement that happens within their offense. In the beginning of the game, we got hurt with some of the back cuts or layups, but each timeout, we kept reminding our guys that there are moments where we can’t get caught ball watching.”
