Michigan moves into top 20 of AP poll amid four-game win streak
Michigan Wolverines basketball has moved up in the Associated Press top 25 following yet another 2-0 week and amidst a four-game win streak. The Maize and Blue were No. 24 last week, and have surged to No. 20 in the Feb. 10 release. Michigan is No. 17 in the coaches poll.
First-year head coach Dusty May‘s group is 18-5 overall and 10-2 in Big Ten play, tied for second in the conference standings with Michigan State, behind only 11-2 Purdue.
Michigan went 2-0 last week, beating Oregon (80-76) at home and winning at Indiana (70-67). The victory over the Hoosiers was a Quad 1 win, Michigan’s fifth of the season, while the game against Oregon was Quad 2.
The Maize and Blue have won four in a row since being shellacked, 91-64, Jan. 24 at Purdue. They have a chance to right the wrong Tuesday night, when the Boilermakers come to Ann Arbor for another showdown. Michigan is expected to win the game by one point, according to Kenpom.
“We’re excited to be in position for this to be an extremely big game, with Purdue coming in to Crisler tomorrow,” May said Monday morning. “I challenge our fans to bring the energy, enthusiasm and to create and continue to build on the home court environment that we continue to create.

“We don’t use the word ‘revenge,’ but we have to play much better basketball. We need to make some adjustments schematically, but more importantly our mindset.”
Michigan has beaten one team that’s currently ranked in the AP poll: No. 16 Wisconsin. The Wolverines beat the Badgers 67-64 in Madison, the first of their five road wins in conference play.
The Wolverines have a chance to add to that tally, with games against three ranked opponents down the stretch: No. 7 Purdue (Feb. 11), No. 11 Michigan State (Feb. 21, March 9) and No. 25 Maryland (March 5).
