New Michigan PG Jaelin Llewellyn to wear iconic jersey number
Princeton graduate transfer Jaelin Llewellyn, the favorite to start at point guard next season, is enrolled at U-M and going through workouts with Michigan Wolverines basketball. He posted photos on his Instagram account that revealed his jersey number, too.
Llewellyn is set to don No. 3 at Michigan, per his Instagram. That, of course, is a legendary number in Ann Arbor, especially when it comes to point guards. Of note, Trey Burke, the 2013 consensus National Player of the Year, sported the digit from 2011-13.

Burke led Michigan to the 2013 national title game, where the Wolverines fell to Louisville. The Columbus, Ohio, native averaged 18.6 points, 6.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.6 percent from inside the arc and 38.4 percent from three-point range that year. He nailed the game-tying three-pointer to send the Wolverines’ Sweet 16 game against Kansas into overtime. The play stands as one of the most memorable shots in recent NCAA Tournament history.
The next Michigan player to wear No. 3 was wing Kameron Chatman from 2014-16. After he transferred out of the program, point guard Zavier Simpson used the number from 2016-20. Simpson won 108 career games, which is tied for second among all Michigan players through history. Guard Zeb Jackson took the digit over from there, sporting it from 2020-22, before he also transferred and committed to VCU this offseason.
Four Michigan freshmen reveal jersey numbers
Four Michigan freshmen revealed their jersey numbers on social media. Forward Gregg Glenn III, guard Jett Howard, guard Dug McDaniel and forward Tarris Reed Jr. all have their digits, posting to their Instagram stories recently.
Glenn will wear No. 23. Those are the digits former forward Brandon Johns Jr. wore at Michigan from 2018-22. Johns entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason and will use his extra year of eligibility at VCU.

Howard is set to don No. 13. Sophomore walk-on Ian Burns was No. 13 last season, but given Howard now has the number in his locker, Burns has switched to No. 4. His brother, junior guard Jace Howard, wears No. 25, which was their father’s, head coach Juwan Howard, back in the 1990s.
McDaniel will play point guard while wearing No. 0 for Michigan. Former guard Adrien Nunez, who began his career with No. 5, wore zero each of the last two seasons. Prior to that, former guard David DeJulius sported No. 0 from 2018-20 ahead of his transfer to Cincinnati.
Reed will wear No. 32. The last Michigan player to have that number was walk-on guard Luke Wilson from 2017-21.
The only freshman whose jersey number is unknown is Youssef Khayat. The Lebanese forward has not yet enrolled at Michigan, after committing June 26. Another newcomer, graduate forward Joey Baker, a Duke transfer, is not in the school directory just yet. His jersey number remains a mystery, too, though. He wore No. 13 with the Blue Devils.
