Tarris Reed Jr. enjoying playing alongside Hunter Dickinson in Michigan front court
Michigan played both of its bigs — Reed and junior center Hunter Dickinson — together on the floor for the first time this season in a 93-84 overtime loss to Iowa Thursday night in Iowa City. Reed enjoyed playing with Dickinson.
“Honestly, that was pretty fun,” Reed said. “We talked about it over the summer, and I knew it was eventually going to come. I didn’t know it would be so soon. It was fun having two bigs out there — me and Hunt for the first time. I know there were some ups and downs for our first time, but I’m looking forward to doing it again later on this season.”
“Definitely in the low post, rebounding, defensively. I’m able to switch and guard one through five, make up for other peoples’ defensive mistakes. Especially shot blocking. Shot blocking has been big. Rebounding. And on the offensive side, down low I’m going to be a handful.”
“He’s a great defender,” Dickinson said of Reed after the Iowa game. “He’s very mobile so he makes up for a lot of mistakes that other players make,” Dickinson said of Reed. “He’s a great player with a lot of potential.”
Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery wasn’t expecting to see the look but was impressed at how effective it was.

“I’m a big Reed fan,” McCaffery said. “I think he’s tremendous. So, you look at them as, they’re both five men. But they both can score, and they both are athletes. They both have length. You can play them both together. And that’s probably something Juwan will do at times moving forward, depending on who they’re playing against.”
