The hosts began the podcast by reacting to Michigan junior tight end Colston Loveland‘s comment about wanting to finish out the regular season. Here’s what Loveland said: “We’re gonna play. As long as we’re healthy and feel good, we’re gonna play.

“Michigan has done so much for us All of our boys, our brothers, our family, our coaches — they’re all still coaching and playing, so why wouldn’t we play? We’ve got goals to reach as a team and individually, as well. So as long as I’m healthy, yeah, I’m playing.

“I could see both sides. Maybe if you had an injury or something, but I feel like for me — and I know a lot of the guys here — if you’re healthy and you can go out and play, we love the game of football.

“We’ve been blessed by God to be able to play this game, our families have sacrificed so much, so why wouldn’t we play? That’s kinda where my head’s at.”

The Michigan hosts discussed their thoughts.

“The one thing they’ve been able to do is keep this together in terms of guys wanting to play for each other,” Sayfie said. “The leadership, I think, has been … there have been guys that have stepped up like Colston Loveland on this team.”

“Yeah, I don’t expect them to play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl or the Music City Bowl, and I wouldn’t expect them to, to be honest with you,” Balas said. “If it were a playoff game or something like that, then absolutely. But to me, those are glorified exhibitions now and really for the young guys. Things have changed. My opinion on this would’ve been different probably five years ago, but with the playoff and everything and seeing what happened to [former Michigan tight end] Jake Butt in the Orange Bowl, seeing his knee injury … I don’t see them playing in a meaningless bowl game, should they get there. They’d have to win one more game to get there.

“But yeah, it’s good to hear. I wouldn’t expect anything less of guys with their national championship rings. You see [junior defensive tackles] Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant playing at an extremely high level, busting their butts. And all the talk about [junior cornerback] Will Johnson … Will Johnson wants to be out there, I have no doubt about that. Hopefully, he’ll be back for Northwestern. They need him, and then they need him for Ohio State. That is the one shot at redemption for this lousy season.”
