Sayfie and Balas discussed Michigan’s win over Ohio State in Columbus, which was the program’s 20th victory of the season under first year head coach Dusty May.

“In my opinion, this Michigan basketball team, what they’ve accomplished, has basically guaranteed Dusty May national coach of the year — at least that needs to be how it is,” Balas said. “This guy, from 8-24 to now … and I don’t care how they finish, unless of course they finish 0-6, but we know that’s not going to happen.

“A lot of basketball still to be played, and I still think that 16-4 could win this conference — maybe even 15-5 — with everything that everybody still has to play, with all the teams that the contenders still have to play. It’s gonna be fascinating, but man, Dusty May and what he’s accomplished here is just unbelievable.”

“The backloaded schedules … look at Purdue, for examples. They lose two incredibly difficult games last week, where you’re going to Michigan in a game where Michigan lost big to you, they want revenge, tough environment. Then they come home and play Wisconsin, one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten and the country. You lose two, and next thing you know, you’ve got two losses. They can pile up in a hurry — not even pile up, but one or two can be the difference with where you stand in the Big Ten.

“Still a long way to go. That’s why you have a couple days off here, Michigan taking the day off today and tomorrow because they won’t get one next week. You start Friday against Michigan State, it’s five games in 13 days, it’s a full sprint to the finish line essentially, and this Big Ten race is really gonna heat up.”
