WATCH: Dusty May previews Michigan's final week of regular season, discusses what needs to improve

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines basketball head coach Dusty May met with the media Monday morning ahead of his team’s final week of the regular season, which includes a home game against Maryland and road tilt at Michigan State.

May opened up his press conference by previewing the week ahead for Michigan basketball. The Wolverines will win at least a share of the Big Ten title if they win their two games.
“Well, what a great opportunity this week, with Maryland, an extremely talented, well-coached, fun team to watch coming in on Wednesday and then a chance to go to East Lansing with the championship on the line if we can take care of business and hold it down at home,” May said.
May was asked how aware his team is of how big this month can be for it, and the Michigan coach replied that it’s obvious. The Wolverines are coming off a 20-point loss to Illinois and are focusing small — on improvement — to work toward the bigger goals.

“We haven’t talked about how this team will be defined,” May said. “We need to play better. We need to have more physicality. We haven’t made better than 35 percent from three [in a game] since January 27th.
“The only thing we’ve talked about when it comes to defining moments is that championships bond them for life, as brothers. That’s it. It’s not, 10 years from now, if you don’t do this and don’t do that … if we win a championship, there’s something special that hopefully drives us to work a little harder, to get out of bed with a little hop in our step. But for the most part, no, we’re not talking about how March is … we know.
“We know what March is. It’s what everyone points to. It’s why CBS feels so different on a Sunday in early March. So, no. We’ve had, I think, bigger things to talk about than that.”
Michigan is 14-4 in Big Ten play but has lost two of its last four games, to MSU and Illinois. Sandwiched in between those two setbacks were close wins over Nebraska and Rutgers. The Wolverines are looking to play better but are still in position to compete for three championships down the stretch.
