Michigan basketball releases complete 2022-23 non-conference schedule
Michigan Wolverines basketball has released its complete 2022-23 non-conference schedule, which includes 11 games. The Maize and Blue will begin the regular season Nov. 7 with a home contest against Purdue Fort Wayne.
The Wolverines are set to participate in two multi-team events, one in November and another in December.
The Legends Classic will be Nov. 16-17 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The first-round matchups have not been announced, but the other three participants are Arizona State, Pittsburgh and VCU. That event gives Michigan the potential to face some of its former players — guard Frankie Collins, who transferred to ASU, and guard Zeb Jackson and forward Brandon Johns Jr. with VCU.
The Wolverines will play North Carolina in the first-annual Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte Dec. 21. The other teams involved are Oklahoma and Florida, but each program will play just once.
Another headliner of Michigan’s non-conference slate is a Nov. 29 ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup with Virginia at Crisler Center. U-M is 5-4 at home in Challenge games.
Michigan will play Kentucky at the O2 Arena in London Dec. 4 as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase, five days after taking on the Cavaliers. The Wolverines and Wildcats were originally scheduled to play in Dec. 2020, but the event was postponed. The game will serve as the back half of a double-header, with the first contest pitting Marist against Maine.
In the non-conference, Michigan will play six games at home and five on neutral floors, with no true road tilts.

Michigan looking for improvement on overseas trip
Michigan head coach Juwan Howard is entering his fourth season at his alma mater, and he and his squad are currently in Paris, the first of two stops on their 10-day trip to Europe. The Wolverines will also head to Greece and play three exhibition games in total.
“In my opinion, some of the best education is in travel,” the Michigan coach said last week. “And when you go to places like France and Greece, you get to explore and learn about the cultures.”
Howard added that the exhibition games will give U-M a “measure of where we are at this moment, and see what areas we can improve on.”
