Michigan Wolverines basketball head coach Juwan Howard and Co. continue to be active with pursuing targets in the NCAA transfer portal. The Maize and Blue have reached out to former Marshall guard Andrew Taylor.

Taylor, who has one year of eligibility remaining, played four seasons with the Thundering Herd, totaling 107 appearances. He entered the transfer portal May 9 and has already heard from a slew of high-major programs. The 6-foot-3, 194-pounder out of Corbin, Ky., has also received interest from Indiana, Kentucky, Florida, Kansas State, Miami, Memphis, Xavier and several others, according to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein.

The former Marshall standout was his team’s starting point guard each of the last two seasons but played some shooting guard earlier in his career.

Taylor, a first-team All-Sun Belt selection last season, averaged 20.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game, shooting 45 percent from inside the arc, 35.9 percent from three-point range (79-of-220) and 82.4 percent from the free throw line.

A lot was asked of Taylor this past season, when he had the 104th-highest usage rate in the country (28.5), per Kenpom, and shot 31.5 percent of his team’s field goals while he was on the floor (32nd-most nationally).

Taylor ranked in the 92nd percentile in the country in ball-screen volume last season, but graded out average with 0.852 points per possession (including passes), per Synergy. He put up a 51.1 effective field goal percentage in spot-up situations, too.

Taylor shot 60.8 percent at the rim, 37.1 percent on runners and 34.6 percent (47.1 eFG%) on jump shots last season, per Synergy.

In 2022-23, Marshall finished the season with a 24-8 record after losing to Texas State in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament. The Thundering Herd ranked No. 83 in the country on Kenpom.

Taylor averaged in double figures all four seasons at Marshall. The Michigan target has a 48.1 overall field goal percentage and has made 35.5 percent of his triple tries for his career, contributing 5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per outing.

Michigan had moderate success with a Sun Belt transfer in the past. Former Coastal Carolina guard DeVante’ Jones was the mid-major league’s player of the year before joining the Wolverines in 2021-22. He started at point guard and averaged 10.3 points, 4.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds per contest that season.

The Wolverines have a returning starting point guard in sophomore Dug McDaniel. Graduate Jaelin Llewellyn — a Princeton transfer who suffered a season-ending ACL injury last December — is also set to return. The Wolverines also have commitments secured from former North Carolina guard Caleb Love and former Alabama guard Nimari Burnett. They will bring in freshman guard George Washington III, a four-star 2023 prospect, as well.
