Former Michigan basketball guard Trey Burke, the 2013 national player of the year, was in attendance at U-M’s 70-68 loss to Virginia Tuesday night at Crisler Center. He spoke to the Wolverines after the game, delivering a message that resonated with the crew.

Burke made it known that Michigan should learn from the setback to the No. 3 team in the country, and that the fact they competed that closely, taking the Cavaliers down to the wire, proves the Maize and Blue are one of the nation’s elite, too. He used a comparison from the 2013 season, when Michigan fell at Penn State, the worst team in the Big Ten, just before the end of the regular season. The Wolverines used the loss as a learning experience, he said, and figured things out en route to making the national championship game.

Despite Michigan falling short in the loss to Virginia, head coach Juwan Howard was pleased with his team’s effort.

“College basketball, you have to play tough teams,” Howard said postgame. “You always face good teams and we faced a good one tonight. Unfortunately, we came up short. Take away a lot of really good things that happened in this ball game. When we come out with the effort we did today for 40 minutes, I love our chances against any team in the country.”

Michigan has lost its highest rated commit in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

On300 Rancho (Calif.) Santa Margarita EDGE Collins Acheampong flipped his commitment from Michigan to Miami on Tuesday night in a bit of a recruiting stunner.

Acheampong told The Wolverine just one night earlier that he remained solid to the Wolverines despite taking visits to Pac-12 programs UCLA and USC. The true threat, however, was hidden in plain sight.

Acheampong committed to Michigan over Miami in the summer in an extremely close decision. Acheampong was impressed with Miami’s NIL pitch but picked Michigan based on its transformational experience. However, Miami never lost contact with Acheampong

Quote Of The Day

“Yeah, I feel like the way we look at it is it’s another game in the way of our ultimate goal, which is a national championship. And last year, it was kind of one of our main goals to win a Big Ten Championship. And obviously, we’re not taking them lightly. And we’re not taking this game lightly, whatsoever. But we’re just excited to get back there. Enjoy it and dominate on all three cylinders.”
