Texas and Oklahoma are officially joining the SEC in 2024, and that development had a ripple effect on Michigan Wolverines football. Part of the Longhorns being able to make the move from the Big 12 was U-M agreeing to flip the locations of its non-conference games with them.

Michigan was originally scheduled to play Texas in Austin in 2024 and host the Longhorns in 2027. Now, the 2024 meeting will be at The Big House and the 2027 game will be at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium, per ESPN.com’s Pete Thamel.

“A key part of the deal to let OU and Texas out of Big 12 early was a game flip of a non-conference match-up between Michigan and Texas,” Thamel reported. “Texas will now visit Michigan in 2024 in Ann Arbor and Michigan will return the game in Austin in 2027. They’d been scheduled opposite.

“That game flip was a key driver for Fox agreeing to this deal to let Oklahoma and Texas out of the Big 12 a year early.”

Michigan and Texas are two of the winningest programs in college football history. The Wolverines have the most ever in the sport (989), while the Longhorns rank fifth with 936.
