The Michigan Wolverines are the No. 2 team in the country this week after Tuesday night’s reveal of the latest College Football Playoff rankings following a 24-15 win at Penn State over the weekend. The rest of the field was headlined by Georgia at No. 1, flipping spots with Ohio State at No. 2 and Florida State at No. 4.

Washington and Oregon came in at No. 5 and 6, respectively. The rest of the top ten was filled out by Texas, Alabama, Missouri and Louisville.

Michigan’s athletic director Warde Manuel was part of the committee’s meetings this week after staying in Ann Arbor last week to tend to the response from the Big Ten on potential Jim Harbaugh discipline. The conference ultimately decided to suspend Harbaugh for the final three games of the regular season. A court ruling was pushed to this Friday, meaning Michigan had to play Penn State without him last weekend. Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Sherrone Moore was the acting head coach in the game.

Harbaugh raved about their response during his radio show on Tuesday prior to the CFP rankings reveal.

“The team, couldn’t be more proud of them,” Harbaugh said on this week’s Inside Michigan Football show with Jon Jansen. “The leadership, coaches, players, so many leaders on the team just played their hearts out. They did what they had to do to win and blocked out the outside noise, blocked out the noise inside the stadium, and took care of business.

“Been very outspoken about what I think of our coaches, our players, our leaders and our captains. With Sherrone, the mental toughness, the connection with the team, the commitment to the program. He did what he had to do to get us to get that win. Couldn’t be more proud of him. Second game as a head coach. Get a top-10 win on the road. I think we all know his future is really bright. He will be one of the outstanding head coaches in the history of the game.”
