Live updates: Michigan football 2023 spring game
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football is holding its spring game Saturday afternoon at The Big House, with a live broadcast on Big Ten Network.
The squad are split into two sides, ‘Blue’ and ‘Maize. Special teams coordinator and safeties coach Jay Harbaugh is leading the ‘Blue,’ while running backs coach and run game coordinator Mike Hart is heading up the ‘Maize.’ The two coaches and surrounding staff members drafted players earlier this week. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is serving as the commissioner.

• Final: Maize 22, Blue 21
• The Maize Team drove all the way down and scored a touchdown on a 4-yard rush by Leon Franklin. Davis Warren found Peyton O’Leary for the two-point conversion, a gutsy call by head coach Mike Hart, to take the 22-21 lead. The Blue Team turned the ball over on downs at the end, giving it back to Warren and Co., who kneeled to run out the clock.
• Alex Orji finds tight end AJ Barner for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Barner ran a route across the formation. Linebacker Ernest Hausmann was in coverage but late.
• Early in the fourth quarter, Blue is driving, thanks to a deep ball from Alex Orji to Fredrick Moore for a 40-yard chunk gain.
• Davis Warren found Peyton O’Leary, who’s had a big game, for a 33-yard gain down the sideline. The Maize Team ran it in, with walk-on running back Leon Franklin punching in a touchdown. Right guard Reece Atteberry led the way with a nice block. Tommy Doman’s extra point tied the game at 14-14.
• Benjamin Hall runs over Jimmy Rolder at the goal line and scores a 1-yard touchdown. The Blue Team now has a 14-7 lead after the made extra point.
• Benjamin Hall rips off a 32-yard run down to the 1-yard line. Amir Herring pulled from right guard and laid a nice block to spring him. Hall has 8 carries for 76 yards.
• Team Maize couldn’t take advantage after the turnover. Davis Warren throws an interception on the first play of the possession to sophomore cornerback Myles Pollard.
• Jack Tuttle runs to the right and is hit by sophomore linebacker Ernest Hausmann, who forced a fumble, recovered by sophomore linebacker Jimmy Rolder.
• Maize Team got all the way down to the goal line, went for it on fourth down and got stuffed, with Davis Warren getting stopped on a keeper. Blue Team takes over. Alex Orji is at quarterback, with Jack Tuttle being sprinkled in.
• Davis Warren connected with tight end Matthew Hibner, who ran down the sideline and stumbled on his own at the 10-yard line. That’s a 52-yard pickup for the Maize Team.
• Sophomore Alex Orji got some run at quarterback on the Blue Team’s first drive. The team didn’t get anything going on the possession, punting it away. Junior Davis Warren, the star of last year’s Michigan spring game, is now in at quarterback for the Maize Team.
• Halftime: Maize 7, Blue 7
• J.J. McCarthy hits walk-on receiver Jake Thaw for a 5-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds left in the half. That’s a successful two-minute drill for McCarthy and the Maize Team. The game is tied at 7-7.

• J.J. McCarthy and Peyton O’Leary connect for two chunk gains to each sideline, and Maize is in business across midfield. Mike Hart calls timeout with 1:09 to play in the half.
• J.J. McCarthy was only supposed to play one quarter, per the Michigan radio crew, but is still in the game late in the second quarter. His team hasn’t put a successful drive together yet.
• Junior Tommy Doman had a booming punt after the Maize Team drive stalled out midway through the second quarter.
• With just under 8 minutes left in the second quarter, Jack Tuttle throws an interception to Michigan sophomore safety Zeke Berry, who’s been active in the early going. Tuttle was pressured, ran around in the backfield and took a risk in throwing it toward the sideline.
• On the Maize Team’s second drive, Leon Franklin ran to his right, got hit by sophomore defensive back Kody Jones and coughed up the ball. The Blue Team recovered and is looking to extend its 7-0 lead.
• End of the first quarter: Blue 7, Maize 0
• With 13 seconds left in the first quarter, the Blue Team scores on a goal line run by senior Kalel Mullings. That caps off a 16-play touchdown scoring drive in which the Blue picked up two key fourth downs. The Blue team leads 7-0.
• The two former Indiana teammates, quarterback Jack Tuttle and tight end AJ Barner, hooked up for a connection.
• J.J. McCarthy is in a white jersey, meaning he cannot be touched and may play for both teams. He threw an interception to graduate safety Quinten Johnson on the Maize Team’s first drive.
• Blue will kick off to Maize to begin the game.
