Michigan press conference notes

The following are among the topics that the Michigan head coach discussed Monday afternoon at Schembechler Hall:

• The quarterback competition, which has now come to a close for the time being, with sophomore J.J. McCarthy winning the job. Harbaugh continued to note that the Wolverines have 2 quarterbacks who can play winning and championship football. He was asked about a small pocket of fans booing the offense with Cade McNamara in the game, and he said that as long as the program embraces having two good quarterbacks — which he says it does — the rest is irrelevant, other than that he would prefer the fan base to do the game.

• Sophomore running back Donovan Edwards, who missed the 2nd half of Saturday night’s game, is “working through something,” according to Harbaugh. The Michigan coach did not have an update more than that.

• Areas he’d like to see improve, including the pass protection.

• Michigan played over 90 players Saturday night, and Harbaugh said many of the reserves acquitted themselves well.
