Michigan football received huge news Sunday, with Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga five-star EDGE Carter Meadows — the No. 6 overall player and second-best EDGE in the country — making his commitment public. More from The Wolverine’s EJ Holland:

Five-star Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga EDGE Carter Meadows committed to Michigan over fellow finalists Ohio State, Penn State and South Carolina.

“They know their identity,” Meadows said. “They know what they stand for as a program. They have a dedication to success. They aren’t going to drop below their standard.”

Meadows made his official visit to Michigan for Victors Weekend on June 20. It was there where the Wolverines regained momentum and moved back to the top.

“The visit was great,” Meadows said. “Spending time with the players and also feeling the culture and brotherhood of the program for a couple days was great.”

Both Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore and defensive line coach Lou Esposito played big roles in winning Meadows over.

“I love Coach Moore and Coach Espo,” Meadows said. “They are both personable guys and have great character. They want the best for their players. They are doing for their players and not themselves. That’s what I like.”

At 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, Meadows is ranked as the No. 2 EDGE and No. 6 overall recruit nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in Washington D.C. this cycle.

Meadows said at the time of his commitment that he feels like he’s “home.”

The Orlando Magic have declined team options for both former Michigan forward Moritz Wagner and guard Caleb Houstan.

Michigan sophomore forward Morez Johnson Jr. had 3 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in a win over France at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland. That was Team USA’s second game, and victory, of the event in Group D.

Redshirt freshman forward Oscar Goodman posted 5 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in a win over Mali in Group A.

Quote Of The Day

“I think their history of winning and tradition and upholding their standard of excellences in all walks of life, on the field, off the field that’s what makes it special.”
