Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the former Heisman Trophy runner up at Michigan, is amped up for the Detroit Tigers’ playoff run. The Tigers just won their first home playoff game since 2013 in their first home postseason game since 2014.

The Tigers are on an incredible streak. In early August, FanGraphs gave Detroit a 0.2-percent chance to make the postseason, but they defied the odds. Hutchinson sees a similarity with his 2021 Michigan football team. The Wolverines were coming off a 2-4 campaign in 2020 and were given a two-percent shot to make the College Football Playoff. They proceeded to win 12 games for the second time in program history, win their first Big Ten championship in 17 years and reach the College Football Playoff for the first time.

“Honestly, I was never too much of a baseball fan,” Hutchinson, a Plymouth, Mich., native, said when asked about his recollection of the Tigers growing up. “I just knew we were good when I was growing up. And then we kinda got bad for a while and now we’re kinda back a little bit.

“It was so much fun. You kinda know the big names growing up, and I knew we had some of those big names. But on their roster, I think I saw we have like the youngest roster or something in the MLB. I think it’s just wild.

“Their whole story is wild. I saw they had like a .2-percent chance to make it. It kinda reminds me of my Michigan team from my senior year. We had like a .1-percent chance to make it to the playoffs, so I see a little correlation.”
