Michigan football notebook: Andrel Anthony injury status, Kris Jenkins decision on future, more
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Michigan Wolverines football held its media day ahead of Saturday’s College Football Playoff matchup with TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Several bits of news came out of the event, starting with sophomore wide receiver Andrel Anthony.
The East Lansing, Mich., native was seen limited in practice Tuesday but appears to be on track to playing versus the Horned Frogs.
“Yeah, for sure,” Anthony said on if he expects to give it a go Saturday. “I feel pretty good. I just had a little knick knack, but I’m good. I’m alright.”
Anthony feels the team is prepared for the great opportunity it has in front of it.
“Extremely prepared,” he said, in fact. “Like I said, we’ve had more opportunities to go over stuff a couple times, or just fix the little problems. The walkthroughs, we’ve put more time into getting the kinds out, so pretty prepared.”
Anthony has caught 7 passes for 80 yards and 1 touchdown this season.
Kris Jenkins to return to Michigan for 2023 season
Michigan junior defensive tackle Kris Jenkins has two more years of eligibility after this season, but he’d likely be an NFL Draft pick if he decided to make the leap following the CFP. Jenkins is focused on TCU, but he already knows where he’ll be next year: back at Michigan.
“I already made a decision,” Jenkins said. “I definitely want to stay, for sure. I love this place. I want to continue to grow, continue to develop, continue to get bigger and stronger. I still have a lot more things I want to work on, and I feel like this place, Michigan, is perfect for me to do so.”
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has called him a “kid in a candy store” with his infectious energy and love for the game. Jenkins wants to take an even bigger step as a leader heading into 2023, too.

“Absolutely, just taking that next step, maturing, being a leader,” the Michigan lineman said. “Not just by saying it, but also by doing it — leading by example. I want to be someone that the team can look at and just count on, no matter the situation. Not just a guy that’s going to say something, but a guy that’s going to step up when it’s necessary.”
Jenkins is fifth on the team with 50 tackles, including 3.5 behind the line of scrimmage and 2 sacks, with 2 quarterback hurries.
Gemon Green still mulling over decision, German Green set for Michigan return
Michigan graduate cornerback Gemon Green has been a starter this season, solidifying himself as one of the team’s top defensive backs. He’s still weighing his options for next year, with the potential to go pro or return to U-M. He’s made 18 tackles and 3 pass breakups this season.
His twin brother, German Green, will undergo knee surgery in mid-January before returning for Michigan in 2023. He’s been a significant contributor on special teams this year and said he embraces the role of helping the team in any role possible. He’s recorded 4 tackles and 1 pass breakup in 2022.
