Wolverine TV podcast: Takeaways from Jim Harbaugh presser, Jesse Minter/Eagles, Michigan basketball vs. Rutgers
TheWolverine.com‘s Clayton Sayfie, Chris Balas and Anthony Broome attack the latest Michigan Wolverines football and basketball headlines on this episode of the podcast. We discuss head football coach Jim Harbaugh‘s first spring ball press conference, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter interviewing for the same role with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, Michigan basketball’s Thursday night clash against Rutgers and more.
During his press conference, Harbaugh revealed that sophomore Amorion Walker — who entered the program last season as a wide receiver — has made the full-time move to cornerback for at least the spring. He could play both ways in the future. The Michigan podcast hosts weighed in on the development that could help Walker’s career going forward.
“He said that he thinks that is the best move for his future, not just for this football team” Balas said of Harbaugh’s comments on Walker. “And, OK, if you’ve got next-level potential at that size, man, to be able to play like that, you could be an NFL guy for a long, long time. And not saying that he couldn’t at wide receiver, but they’re thinking, OK, if we’re right here — and let’s be honest, Jim Harbaugh is right more often than he’s wrong when it comes to position switches …”
“When you have a guy that comes in and says, ‘Oh, you know, I’d like to play wide receiver,’ and the coaches look at the traits, they look at the explosiveness and they say, ‘You might be better off at cornerback,’ … 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4 wide receivers, not saying there’s a bevy of them in the NFL, but there are a lot of them. You know what there aren’t a lot of? 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4 cornerbacks that can move with that short-area quickness, burst. We’ll see if the play making ability and ball skills are there.”
