The hosts began by discussing Michigan’s most valuable players of spring ball — not just the scrimmage but the 15 practices as a whole.

“[Senior EDGE] Derrick Moore is a guy that they talked about,” Balas said. “To me, I think he’d be the guy, although it was very interesting to hear [defensive coordinator] Wink Martindale talk about how they’re going to use the linebackers more this year and that’s really the strength of the team. But I do think pass rush is going to be paramount to whatever they do, and Derrick Moore has been the guy. He comes out of that as No. 1.

“I think Derrick Moore, for me, is that guy. We’ve heard great things about a lot of the young safeties, but as veterans go and as MVPs go, he’d be my guy on defense.

“And then on offense, probably, is it [sophomore running back] Jordan Marshall? It’s hard to say, because if you’re doing thud for the most part in practices, it’s really hard to understand and appreciate what the running backs are doing in the spring. But, to me, overall it’s Derrick Moore.”

Sayfie mentioned Underwood as a possibility for MVP, in addition to some other names.

“You could make an argument for Bryce Underwood, because of the lack of depth at quarterback and the way that he could take this offense to the next level,” Sayfie said. “And the next level from last year, it’s not a huge jump, but I think maybe a level or two, he could take this offense to, from a year ago. And you need that from that position.”
