The hosts began by discussing Michigan’s start to spring ball, which begins next Tuesday (March 18), ahead of the April 19 spring game in front of fans at The Big House.

“It’s been a while since the football team has … it’s been a quiet few months here,” Sayfie said. “They’ve been working, the winter training cycle. They had spring break last week. Back on campus now, and they will go for about four weeks until the April 19 spring game.”

“It’s kind of a weird sensation, right?” Broome said. “I feel like the last, even going back to coming off the COVID season, the offseason has been full of storylines. Is the head coach gonna stay? What does his contract look like? Is the NFL coming after him? Jim Harbaugh, by the way, leaves for the NFL last year. You have a coaching change. At this point — it was right before spring ball — where you thought you had a staff, and then a staffer gets popped for a DUI. You have to go hire someone else.

“That level of frenetic activity has not been there this offseason, which to me … that’s good for business, make no mistake about it. It pays the bills. I’m totally understanding of that. But I haven’t hated not having these extra curricular storylines, or having the storyline be anything other than, ‘How does this Michigan team get better during spring ball?’

“I don’t know that a lot of those questions are gonna be answered over this next month or so. On the same token, it’s gonna be good to finally get a feel for where this team is at, get a feel for what they have and what they need to still answer in the spring portal, fall camp and all those types of things.”
