Newsstand: Biff Poggi to spend weekend at Michigan after being fired by Charlotte
Tweets Of The Day
Biff Poggi was fired this week as the head coach of the Charlotte 49ers. The former Michigan associate head coach (2021-22) and staffer (2016) is set to make his return to Ann Arbor, though, to spend the weekend with head man Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines. Poggi worked with Moore, helping with the offensive line, as well as served as an advisor for former head coach Jim Harbaugh during his second stint with the Maize and Blue.
“Love my players at CLT (green check emoji). Love my coaches and staff at CLT (green check emoji). Love the students at CLT (green check emoji),” Poggi posted on X. “I will be spending Friday and Saturday with my old friend (Sherrone Moore) #GoBlue.”
As for his time at Charlotte, Poggi’s time came to an end when any chance at bowl eligibility was shut down this past weekend due to a 59-24 loss to South Florida. Charlotte closes the season with Florida Atlantic and UAB, which are a combined 4-16. Charlotte was Poggi’s first head coaching job in college football.
Michigan women’s basketball took care of business with a 96-31 win over LIU Wednesday night at Crisler Center to improve to 4-1. Freshman Syla Swords continued her impressive start to her career, posting 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in the victory. She was one of four Wolverines in double figures, joined by Olivia Olson (21), Brooke Quarles Daniels (10) and Yulia Grabovskaia (10).
Michigan gained a four-star commit in defensive back Elijah Dotson out of Belleville (Mich.) High, but also lost a pledge in four-star EDGE Jaylen Williams, out of Palatine (Ill.) High, to Wisconsin.

Quote Of The Day
“He’s made a lot of progress from last season to this season. He’s seeing the field a lot better. He sees things so much faster. He’s getting to his check downs or secondary read. He really understands, conceptually, what we’re trying to do. Last year, I’d watch a game, and 70 percent of the time, the ball would go where I would expect it to go. Pre-snap, I had an expectation, and you could tell where the ball should be going. This year, he’s at around 95 percent. That means he completely gets what we’re calling and understands why we’re calling it. He has so much arm talent that he can put it wherever he needs to.”
