Bigger, faster Michigan RB Blake Corum close to 100 percent health: 'It's the old Blake, plus some'
Michigan Wolverines football will assemble for fall camp Aug. 1 and begin practices the next day. Senior running back Blake Corum is slated to be a participant, after recovering from a knee injury that required surgery and ended his 2022 season early.
The 2022 unanimous All-American will work his way back into things but believes he’ll be 100 percent by the time the season begins Sept. 2 against East Carolina. In fact, he’s just about there already.
“When August 2nd comes around, we’ll see what the trainers and the coaches have to say, but it’ll probably be a gradual build-up,” Corum said on The 33rd Team’s ‘Road To Recovery.’ “They’re not going to just throw me right in the fire and say, ‘Alright, let’s do some Oklahomas.’ But best believe — we’ll start on August 2nd, but by September 2nd, I’ll be ready to roll.
I’ve been up to a lot. I’ve been working really hard on getting back. I’m finally back. Am I close to 100 percent? Heck yeah. I feel like I’m about 98. That last two percent is going to come in camp, but I’m feeling great.”
It’s impossible for the Michigan running back to cross that final hurdle until he’s actually back out on the field as a full participant, but it’s only a matter of time.

“What does that last two percent consist of? It’s really about getting out there and putting the pads on, putting the helmet on, feeling some contact,” Corum said. “I’ll say that’s the last two percent.
“But other than that, I’m feeling stronger than ever. I’m stronger than ever, I bulked up a little bit, but it’s that good weight. I’m feeling fast — faster than ever. It’s the old Blake, plus some. That’s what everyone’s going to get back. It’s the old Blake, plus some.”
Corum hasn’t suited up for a game at The Big House since he suffered his injury near the eastern sideline last November against Illinois. He can hardly contain his excitement to get back at it this fall, having returned for his senior season in hopes of winning a national championship and continuing to give back to the community.
“I’ve been working my butt off to try to get back and better than ever — and I’m there,” Corum said. “Now, every time I drive past The Big House, I look at the bigger scoreboards, more lights, I just envision scoring that first touchdown on September 2nd.”
