Norton, a Cal Poly transfer, discussed choosing Michigan over rival Ohio State last December.

“It was crazy, being an only FCS offer guy and wasn’t even on full scholarship — I had about 25 percent scholarship at my old school — to being here,” Norton said. “Just getting a call from them was out of the blue. I actually had a couple visits to a couple ACCs, and I canceled all of them just to come to here. I just knew a blue blood program like this, I had to go see them, no doubt.

“I got a text on Twitter from [assistant director of recruiting] Jack Dunaway, and then from there he gave me [Michigan offensive line] Coach [Grant] Newsome‘s number, and I ended up calling him.”

Norton was on his visit to Michigan when Ohio State expressed more interest, but he stuck with the Wolverines.

“They called me when I was in my hotel room on my visit here, to offer me” Norton said. “But in my mind … they texted me before Michigan did, really, and then just kind of ghosted me out of the blue. And then all of the sudden once Michigan offered me, they wanted me now? So I kinda thought that was a little odd. Then I just came here and was like, ‘Yeah, this is home.'”

Metcalf, meanwhile, transferred from Arkansas to U-M along with his younger brother, sophomore cornerback Tevis Metcalf. TJ said they weren’t a package deal, but they did have the same level of interest in the Maize and Blue.

“We both came on a visit here together,” TJ said. “Our process was kind of the same. It was a couple different factors that played a part in it, but overall we both made the decision to come here, and we don’t regret it.

“I wouldn’t want to say a ‘package deal,’ but me and my brother kinda think the same since we grew up. A lot of the same stuff hit us both, and I think we handled it well. Just coming here, it’s really a blessing for both of us to be here, as it was at Arkansas.”
