By the numbers: Michigan leads Big Ten with 42 NFL Draft picks over last five years, starts Sherrone Moore era with a bang

Michigan Wolverines football had seven NFL Draft picks in 2025, ranking tied for sixth among all college programs, including three top-13 selections.
This was the first draft under head coach Sherrone Moore, who’s entering his second season at the helm in Ann Arbor, though all seven draftees joined the U-M program under former head man Jim Harbaugh.
It’s time to go by the numbers on Michigan’s draft.
Here’s a look at Michigan’s 2025 draftees:
• DT Mason Graham — first round, No. 5 overall to the Cleveland Browns
• TE Colston Loveland — first round, No. 10 overall to the Chicago Bears
• DT Kenneth Grant — first round, No. 13 overall to the Miami Dolphins
• CB Will Johnson — second round, No. 47 overall to the Arizona Cardinals
• EDGE Josaiah Stewart — third round, No. 90 overall to the Los Angeles Rams
• RB Kalel Mullings — sixth round, No. 188 overall to the Tennessee Titans
• OL Myles Hinton — sixth round, No. 191 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles

Second-highest Drafted Michigan tight end is Loveland at No. 10 overall to the Chicago Bears, behind only Paul Seymour (seventh overall in 1970).

3 Michigan players selected in the top 15, marking the first time in school history that the Wolverines have had a trio picked that high in the same year. Michigan tied its program record with three first-rounders in an event, joining the 2001 (WR David Terrell, OL Steve Hutchinson, OL Jeff Backus) and 1995 (RB Tyrone Wheatley, CB Ty Law, OL Trezelle Jenkins) drafts.
3rd-Highest Is where Graham stands among Michigan defensive players since the AFL-NFL merger in 1966, behind defensive end Aidan Hutchinson (No. 2 overall to the Detroit Lions in 2022) and cornerback Charles Woodson (No. 4 overall to the Oakland Raiders in 1998).
3rd-Straight Draft with a Michigan cornerback selected. Johnson joins Mike Sainristil (second round in 2024) and DJ Turner (second round in 2023) in continuing the streak.
4 Michigan running backs have been chosen in the last five years, after having none at the position from Mike Hart in 2008 until the 2021 draft. The four that have been selected are Mullings (sixth round in 2025), Blake Corum (third round in 2024), Hassan Haskins (fourth round in 2022) and Chris Evans (sixth round in 2021)
5 Michigan defensive tackles have been chosen in the top 50 this century — Graham (No. 5 in 2025), Grant (No. 13 in 2025), Kris Jenkins (No. 49 in 2024) Mazi Smith (No. 26 in 2023) and Alan Branch (No. 33 in 2007).
5th Overall is where the Cleveland Browns selected Graham after trading back from the No. 2 spot (Jacksonville moved up to 2), making him the highest-picked defensive tackle in Michigan history. With Graham going eight selections later at No. 13 to the Miami Dolphins, the two classmates created history, with it being the first time two Michigan defensive tackles have been taken in the first round.
6th Time in the last seven years that at least three Wolverines have been drafted in the top 100 picks. In 2024, Michigan has a program-record seven top-100 selections.
7 NFL Draft picks credited to Moore, an outstanding start to his head-coaching career. Harbaugh has the most among Michigan coaches since the draft moved from 12 rounds to seven in 1994 (66). Lloyd Carr had 62 picks (10 first-rounders) in 13 years from 1996-2008, Rich Rodriguez produced seven selections (1 first-rounder) in three drafts from 2009-11 and Brady Hoke churned out 11 draftees in four years from 2012-15. For reference, the legendary Bo Schembechler had 121 picks in 21 years from 1970-90.

12 Michigan edge rushers have been selected in the NFL Draft since 2017, with Stewart being the most recent. The Wolverines have had at least one edge rusher come off the board eight of the last nine years.
13 Michigan offensive linemen have been drafted over the last six years, including Hinton (sixth round) in 2025. Last year, the Wolverines had three offensive linemen get chosen — Zak Zinter (third round), Trevor Keegan (fifth round) and LaDarius Henderson (seventh round).
23 Wolverines have been chosen in the first three rounds of the past five drafts (2021-25) — eight first-rounders, six second-rounders and nine third-rounders.
52 NFL Draft picks for Michigan in the last six events (since 2020), leading all Big Ten teams. Ohio State is second in that timeframe with 50, while Penn State (38) and Oregon (34) check in behind the league’s two powers. Michigan’s 42 picks over the last five drafts also rank first in the Big Ten.
56 First-round picks in Michigan history, with Graham, Loveland and Grant joining elite company. Graham and Loveland are two of the 24 Wolverines to be taken inside the top 20.
71 NFL Draft picks for the Big Ten in 2025, trailing the SEC, which had 79 selections. Those two conferences led the rest of the nation by quite a large margin, with the third-place ACC checking in at 42 picks and the Big 12 trailing behind at 31. No other conference had double-digit choices. Michigan ranked third among Big Ten programs with seven picks, behind Ohio State (14) and Oregon (10). Every team in the conference had at least one selection, outside of Northwestern.
87 Consecutive drafts with a Michigan player picked, dating back to 1938. That stands as an NCAA record, tied with USC. The next-best mark is Florida at 74 years.
421 All-time selections by Michigan, ranking fourth all time. According to Athlon Sports, the Maize and Blue trail only Notre Dame (538), USC (532) and Ohio State (503). The Wolverines entered 2025 behind Oklahoma, but the Sooners had only two draft picks and now stand sixth (419).
