Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Sagemont Prep small forward Patrick ‘Ricky’ Liburd has officially signed with Michigan, the program announced Wednesday. Liburd committed to the Wolverines last month, after receiving a release from his national letter of intent to Coastal Carolina.

Here’s more on Liburd from our interview with the prospect last month:
The 6-foot-6, 180-pounder originally signed with Coastal Carolina but requested out of his national letter of intent May 7, soon after his primary recruiter — assistant Zack Freesman — was hired at Florida Tech.

Coastal Carolina, Princeton, Cornell, Murray State and Brown were the schools recruiting him the hardest throughout the majority of the process, but high-major offers came in May, and Liburd wound up picking Michigan over Florida State.

“It was definitely a tough choice, because of the opportunity FSU was offering me, because of the role I would’ve had and the coaching staff is amazing,” Liburd told TheWolverine.com.

Michigan assistant coach Kyle Church led the way in the Wolverines’ pursuit of Liburd.

“It was really easy,” Liburd said of connecting with Michigan in a short period of time. “Coach Church was the one who initially contacted me. He’s a really cool guy, really easy to talk to. He did a great job with everything with the application, with talking to me and my family. He did a really good job of making a connection early.”

Head coach Dusty May has also given him expectations for his time in Ann Arbor.

“He’s a great coach,” Liburd said. “He’s definitely very knowledgeable. He’s a really cool guy, really down to Earth and he really explained everything really well. He laid out the role I would have and the experience I would have and the development I would have there. He broke everything down for me.”

Michigan head coach Dusty May is at the NBPA Top 100 camp in South Carolina this week. Wednesday, he was spotted evaluating five-star small forward Anthony Thompson.
