Michigan Wolverines football landed its potential quarterback of the future Friday afternoon, with Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day four-star Jadyn Davis — the No. 26 overall player in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings — pledging to the Maize and Blue on national television. Understandably, the Michigan staff reacted with elation inside Schembechler Hall.

While it can’t (and didn’t) refer to Davis specifically since he’s an unsigned recruit, soon after the commitment, the official Michigan football Twitter account posted a video of U-M coaches celebrating. Among those spotted in the video were Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy, tight ends coach Grant Newsome, offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, director of recruiting operations Albert Karschnia.

Coach’s Take: Michigan QB commit Jadyn Davis wants to be ‘the best that’s ever done it’

Live on ESPN, Davis chose Michigan over fellow finalists Clemson, North Carolina, Ohio State and Tennessee. The Wolverines’ 2024 class now ranks No. 5 in the country and second in the Big Ten behind the fourth-ranked Buckeyes.

Here’s the moment that the future Michigan signal-caller made his pledge:

“Michigan did a great job recruiting my whole family,” Davis said on ESPN, from a commitment ceremony featuring family and friends. “Obviously, you guys see that I’m a big family person. Big on relationships. Me and Coach Harbaugh have a great relationship. It shows it best when a head coach has a one-on-one relationship with a recruit, especially a quarterback. At the college level, that’s going to be the two guys that’s criticized the most or praised the most.

“I really appreciate Coach Harbaugh, Coach Campbell, Coach Moore, the whole staff. … I’m loving everything about being a Wolverine, and I can’t wait to get up there and earn my job.”

Michigan coaches took to Twitter to express their excitement about the big pickup.

More on Jadyn Davis

“All those guys (on Michigan’s staff) have been on NFL staffs — coaches in the NFL and played in the NFL,” Davis told The Wolverine. “Coach Harbaugh was a 14-year veteran. The quarterback position is the hardest position to play. If you haven’t played it, you don’t really know what it’s like, so it’s great to have Coach Harbaugh there. Michigan is a great school.”

At 6-foot, 190 pounds, Davis is ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect in the country, No. 4 quarterback nationally, and No. 1 junior in the state of North Carolina, according to the On3 Industry Rankings

Davis has an On3 NIL Valuation of $557K with 36,000 combined followers on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
