ESPN College GameDay heading to Ann Arbor for Michigan vs. Texas
Ann Arbor will be the epicenter of the college football world for Week 2, with Michigan Wolverines football hosting the Texas Longhorns. ESPN College GameDay announced Saturday morning that the national pregame show will broadcast live from Ann Arbor Sept. 7.
The matchup between Michigan and Texas features two College Football Playoff teams from last season. The Longhorns fell to Washington in the semifinal, while the Wolverines capped off a perfect season with the national title.
The show runs from 9 a.m. to noon ET, hosted by Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit and other ESPN personalities.
Michigan vs. Texas will kick off at noon ET on FOX. Big Noon Kickoff — FOX’s pregame show — will also be live from Ann Arbor beginning at 9 a.m.
The last time GameDay was at Michigan was before last season’s 30-24 win over Ohio State. That marked the third-straight victory over the Buckeyes and cemented the Wolverines’ spot in the Big Ten championship game against Iowa. U-M won, 26-0, and headed to the College Football Playoff, where it won its 12th ever national title.
Michigan has hosted GameDay 14 times, the third-most among all schools behind only Ohio State (23) and Alabama (18). U-M has been a part of games with GameDay in attendance 39 times, the fifth-most among all schools behind Ohio State (59), Alabama (58), Florida (42) and Oklahoma (40).
Michigan has a 21-18 record when GameDay is in attendance.
No. 4 Texas is one of three top-five opponents on Michigan’s 2024 schedule, based on the preseason Associated Press poll. The Maize and Blue will travel to Columbus to take on No. 2 Ohio State Nov. 30 and host No. 3 Oregon at The Big House Nov. 2.

Michigan and Texas agreed to a home and home series back in 2014, with the first matchup coming Sept. 7 of this year and the rematch taking place in Austin in 2027.
The only previous match-up between Michigan and Texas happened in the 2005 Rose Bowl game. The back-and-forth affair ended with a 37-yard field from the Longhorns as time expired to secure a 38-37 victory over the Wolverines. Kicker Garrett Rivas had given U-M a 37-35 lead with 3:04 remaining on a 42-yard field goal. Braylon Edwards led the Michigan offense with 10 receptions for 109 yards and three touchdowns in the contest.
Michigan isn’t backing down from the challenge of playing a tough schedule this season, with first-year head coach Sherrone Moore saying the group is fired up.
“Our guys are excited about the schedule, competitive schedule. When you’re in the Big Ten, there’s not really an easy schedule. So everybody is going to have to deal with it. Everybody is going to have to deal with a competitive schedule, and that’s what we want.”
