From Michigan championship quarterback to backup to out for the season with an injury to … Iowa. That’s the story for Cade McNamara, who had knee surgery not long ago to repair an injury suffered in the non-conference game with UConn.

McNamara has given his commitment to Kirk Ferentz and will join the Hawkeyes next season.

A junior, McNamara led the Wolverines to their first Big Ten title under Jim Harbaugh and a berth in the College Football Playoff last season. He threw for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns with six interceptions in 14 games and led Michigan to its first Big Ten title since 2004. He also helped U-M beat Ohio State for the first time since 2011, a 42-27 win in Ann Arbor.

Michigan senior left guard Trevor Keegan entered the Wolverines’ program with McNamara as part of the 2019 class. He commented on McNamara’s post announcing his Iowa commitment and said, “See you in the ship next year.” U-M could play Iowa in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis, like it did during the 2021 season.

The comment fueled speculation that Keegan is planning on returning to Michigan. He has two more years of eligibility remaining, having redshirted in 2019 and 2020 having been a free year of eligibility.

Michigan football junior running back Blake Corum is expected to undergo knee surgery that could end his 2022, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Rapoport says that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Corum suffered the knee injury in the game against Illinois on Nov. 19 and was taken out of the contest after a second-half carry. He attempted to give it a go at Ohio State last weekend, but was limited to 2 carries and sat out the rest of the game.

Michigan Wolverines football senior captain and defensive tackle Mazi Smith is facing felony charges for carrying a concealed weapon, according to court documents. The incident took place Oct. 7, but the charges were not filed until the morning of Nov. 30 in the 15th District Court in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel and head coach Jim Harbaugh released statements Thursday afternoon. Smith will remain an active participant of the team as the judicial process plays out, Manuel revealed.

Quote Of The Day

“I’ve been doing speed work and going to the gym six or seven days a week. I’m trying to get on a good eating plan. I don’t have to worry about putting that much weight on, but I want to keep my body maintained for that first week when I get there. I’m trying to do as much as possible to prepare for Michigan.”
