Nichols discussed the way he’s progressed and taken the momentum from playing some as a freshman last season, and Michigan beating Ohio State and Alabama to end the year, into this spring ahead of the 2025 campaign.

“That game was honestly huge for me,” Nichols said of the tilt versus Alabama. “I redshirted — I decided not to play the rest of my games that season, and that game was a huge opportunity for me and especially [junior] Cam[eron Brandt]. Cam had a great game that game, and it was great to get out there with him, the dude I’m gonna be playing with this year, and just get comfortable with each other. Great experience.”

Nichols was asked how he and the Michigan defense can continue to carry that momentum over.

“I mean, it’s easy,” he replied. “We went from whipping Ohio State’s ass to … alright, sorry … we went from whooping Ohio State to whooping Alabama, too. You just roll into spring ball with that, and you go in feeling confident about yourself. It’s easy to make plays when you’re confident; it’s hard to make plays when you’re not confident.”

His name has come up from coaches quite a bit this spring.

“It definitely feels good just to hear good things about you on the internet, but you can’t get caught up in all that. You just gotta keep working. I’m just tryna have my role on this team grow as I get older.”

Curtis, meanwhile, said that he’s feeling better about himself heading into his second season at Michigan, as well.

“The game has slowed down,” Curtis said. “Different reps, different people.”

Curtis has been playing safety but also rotating in at nickel back.

“Safety and nickel,” Curtis said of where he’s playing. “[defensive backs] Coach [LaMar] Morgan prepared me well to go in and practice and rotate in [at nickel], so it’s something new.”

Michigan will end the spring with an April 19 spring game at The Big House, but it won’t air on Big Ten Network until April 27.
