Michigan sophomore running back Donovan Edwards decided to crash quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s press conference after practice Tuesday night. Edwards asked McCarthy if he was going to get Chick-Fil-A for his housemates, of which Edwards appears to be one, saying it is his turn (the closest location is in Novi, roughly 35 minutes from Ann Arbor), in what was a funny moment.

McCarthy believes the Michigan offense can perform at a much higher level.

“When you talk about potential and you look at what we have as a group and you look at who we’re coached by and you look at what we’re doing on the field, it’s just not matching up with our potential and what we should be — and where we’re going to be,” the Michigan quarterback said. “Everything is a process, and this entire season is just continual growth week to week, but I feel like we should be not getting stopped offensively. With the talent we have and the scheme, we shouldn’t be stopped.

“Being able to find our groove like we did in the second half [against Indiana] is going to be huge — every drive, every single game. Once we do that, then we’ll break through that surface, for sure.”

Fans have been wondering what uniform combination Michigan will go with Saturday against Penn State. U-M has used all-maize uniforms in multiple promotions for the maize-out game, but it’s also used all-blue in other promos. While we met with players following practice, three of four were wearing blue football pants.

Michigan EDGEs Mike Morris and Eyabi Okie were named seniors generating buzz with the Senior Bowl staff and in the NFL scouting world this week.

“Michigan faced a huge challenge this offseason having to replace the pass rush of Aidan Hutchinson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and second-rounder David Ojabo,” Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy told On3’s Matt Zenitz. “Two seniors are starting to emerge along the defensive line for the Wolverines – E Mike Morris and EDGE Eyabi Okie. Both had sacks in Saturday’s 31-10 road win at Indiana, and Morris added a key blocked field goal in the first half when the game was competitive. Morris, who has 7.0 TFL and 5.0 sacks this season, is a big (listed at 6-6, 292) edge player with nifty feet and a good closing burst for a man his size. Okie is a more traditional-sized outsider linebacker (the school lists him at 6-5, 244), and has one of the best first steps we’ve seen in this draft class. He’s been extremely disruptive with 4.0 TFL and 2.5 sacks considering his low snap count so far this season. Both have been graded as “arrow-up” players by our Midwest scout. [Note: Okie used to be known as Eyabi Anoma and was a five-star signee in the 2018 class for Alabama.]”

Quote Of The Day

“Just embracing the opportunity. This is a great team. Being able to play them in The Big House is a blessing, that’s for sure, with the maize out and all of the fans that are going to be showing up and bringing that energy. It’s just a tremendous opportunity, and I can’t wait to do it; I can’t wait to go out there and show what I can do against that great team.”
